A woman has had to jump for her life as an out-of-control garbage truck ploughed into a house near Wollongong.

The woman, who injured her leg, and the garbage truck driver both ended up in hospital after the truck mounted the kerb and took out a power pole before crashing into a house.

Fire and rescue crews were working to repair power lines, clean up diesel fuel that spilled from the truck and secure the two-storey house in Beatus St, Unanderra.

"It's been destabilised by the truck going through," a spokeswoman said.

The woman pedestrian, aged in her 50s, and the truck driver, aged in his 30s, are both in a stable condition in Wollongong Hospital.
