Woman hit, injured on wet Sydney roads

A female pedestrian has serious injuries after being hit by a truck during heavy rain in western Sydney.

The woman, believed to be in her early 20s, was hit on Pitt Street in Merrylands about 6.40am on Monday.

She has been taken to Westmead Hospital with multiple, severe injuries.

The truck driver has also been taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing, and Pitt Street has been closed with traffic diversions in place.

Meanwhile, firefighters are still working to rescue a driver trapped inside his tip truck in southwest Sydney.

The man, in his 60s, became trapped on Canterbury Road in Canterbury just after 7am on Monday after his truck smashed into a power pole.

Ambulance officers are on the scene, with reports the man has suffered leg injuries.

Significant traffic delays are expected, with Canterbury Road closed to westbound traffic.
