A mother-of-three has been found dead in the front yard of her home after an alleged domestic violence episode with her husband.

It is believed an argument between the couple preceded the discovery of the 49-year-old woman's body in Casula in Sydney's southwest on Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the home on Flame Tree St after neighbours concerns were raised about the woman, identified in the media as Vesna Crnobrnja.

It was initially believed Ms Crnobrnja may have been shot however police have confirmed she suffered facial injuries.

"At this stage we are still not 100 per cent certain on the full injuries and cause of death," Detective Inspector Dean Johnstone told reporters.

"What I can say is this is a domestic violence incident."

The couple's children were not home at the time.

Ms Crnobrnja's husband was arrested and is being questioned by police.

Neighbour Louis Nunes told Network Ten he was shocked.

"I didn't expect something like this would happen," he said.
