Woman dead, man critical after head-on crash west of Sydney

A woman is dead and a man fighting for life in hospital after a head-on collision west of Sydney last night.

Emergency services were called to Picton Road in Wilton at about 7.30pm last night after reports of a crash.

Upon arrival officers found the female driver of one of the two cars involved in the accident had died.

The female passenger in the same car was freed from the wreckage and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The male driver of the other car involved was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate the two cars collided head-on while travelling in opposite directions on Picton Road.

Police have closed Picton Road in both directions, between Macarthur Drive and the Princes Motorway, while Metropolitan Crash Investigators examine the scene.
