Woman charged over NSW pedestrian's death

A woman has been charged with killing one pedestrian and seriously injuring another after allegedly twice veering her car onto a footpath in Sydney's west.

Police say a 90-year-old woman was waiting for a bus on Boronia Road in Greenacre when a 63-year-old driver mounted the footpath and crashed into her at about 11am on January 28.

It will be alleged the woman's Toyota Camry then continued about 200m down the road before again veering onto the footpath, smashing into a power pole and striking a 77-year-old man.

Police say the man suffered broken ribs, a bruised pelvis and cuts above his eye.

The 90-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, where she later died.

The driver was trapped in her vehicle for more than an hour before she was also hospitalised with serious leg and pelvis injuries.

On Saturday morning, the 63-year-old was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and causing bodily harm by misconduct.

She is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, June 8.
