Woman bashed in Sydney armed robbery

A woman is expected to undergo surgery after suffering cuts to her head and hand as she was attacked by an armed robber at a takeaway store in Sydney's west.

Police say the 50-year-old woman was cleaning at the Quakers Hill store at about 8pm on Monday when two men entered and one of them hit her with a metal pole or bat.

The second man stole cash from the till before both men ran from the scene.

The woman remains in a stable condition in hospital and is expected to undergo surgery.
