Farmers have been urged to be more careful after a woman was attacked by a bull and two men injured by a hay bale on the opening day of National Farm Safety Week.

A 52-year-old woman from Berkshire Park remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after suffering a collapsed lung when a bull turned on her at a farm in Sydney's northwest.

A man in his 70s suffered pelvic injuries at a property in Young in southwest NSW when a hay bale fell on top of him.

He was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Orange, where he remains in a stable condition.

Another man sustained back injuries when he tried to hold the hay bale up and was taken by paramedics to Young Hospital.

NSW Ambulance Superintendent Mark Gibbs says farmers need to be mindful of the risks associated with working in remote locations.

"Sometimes people just don't realise how badly they can injure themselves in a machinery or farm accident," he said.
