Heavy rainfall is set to batter parts of NSW, with forecasters urging people to watch out for warnings that may be issued ahead of the weekend.

On Sunday, the entire east coast of NSW is set to be hit with heavy rainfall and potentially wild winds, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

"There's going to be some wild weather on the way," BOM meteorologist Helen Reid told AAP on Thursday.

"Watch for warnings, especially for winds, heavy rainfall and dangerous surf."

Forecasters will be watching the complex system moving through NSW overnight and decisions about warnings will be made on Friday, she said.

Rural areas in NSW, north of Dubbo and west of Moree, are expected to experience some heavy rainfall on Friday before the weather system moves east until it hits the coast on Sunday.
