Van driver causes multi-vehicle crash running red light

A van driver in New South Wales has managed to damage two vehicles after he tried to push through a gap while running a red light.

Dashcam footage of the avoidable bingle taken by Terrigal plumber Adam Walker shows the driver of the turn across the traffic just as a bright-coloured hatchback and a Toyota Hilux take off on the green light.

Despite the ill judgement on display, the driver very nearly managed to slot his van between the two oncoming vehicles. Nearly.

The van clips the rear driver's side of the hatch, then gets a taste of the front of the Hilux barely a second later.

But as Mr Walker says, the accident could have been even worse if it wasn't for his passenger, who shouted for him to hit the brakes.

"From where I’m sitting I couldnt see the van behind the Hilux, my mate was in the passenger seat and said lookout, if it wasnt for him I’d have t-boned it," Mr Walker wrote on facebook, adding that the van looks further away in the video than it was in real life.

"I think you owe someone a few beers Adam Walker," another commentor said.

"Bloody oath mate," the plumber replied.

No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, with all the drivers involved pulling over and exchanging details.
