Two women have been freed by emergency workers after their car crashed into a Sydney house, sparking fears of a building collapse.

Crews managed to rescue the women after the vehicle smashed into the ground floor of the two-storey home in Carlingford at 2.15pm on Tuesday.

The women aged in their 70s are recovering in Westmead Hospital.

The passenger is in a serious but stable condition after a fracture to her wrist saw bone break through skin as well as rib fractures and likely head injuries, a CareFlight spokesperson said.

The driver is in a serious condition with fractures to her ribs and sternum.

Emergency crews have established a collapse zone around the building as they work to assess the damage.
