Girl, 11, one of two killed in NSW crash

An 11-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman have been killed in a collision between a furniture truck and a car on the NSW mid-north coast.

Three others were injured in the head-on accident, which happened on the Pacific Highway at Kundabung, south of Kempsey, just after 5am on Friday.

One of the injured is fighting for his life.

Police say the 40-year-old woman, who was driving the sedan, and the 11-year-old girl in the back seat died at the scene.

The other passengers in the sedan, a man, 47, and a girl, 15, who are believed to be family members, were also injured and are being treated at Port Macquarie Hospital.

The 44-year-old truck driver, who was trapped for an hour, was flown to Newcastle hospital with head injuries and was in a critical condition, a Hunter Westpac helicopter spokesman told Macquarie Radio on Friday.

Crash investigators are on site.

The Pacific Highway was closed in both directions, but one lane has reopened.

This is the third fatal crash involving a truck in Australia this week.

On Thursday morning, three people were killed near Wodonga, Victoria, when a truck's trailer became detached and slammed into two cars.

On Tuesday, a truck collided with two cars on the Murray Valley Highway at Lake Boga, killing a man and injuring two others.
