Trio behind bars over alleged NSW murder

Three men charged over the murder of a man whose decomposing body was discovered stuffed in a surfboard bag in NSW will remain behind bars.

Mark Dower's body was found in the communal laundry of a Wollongong unit block, south of Sydney in April this year.

The 56-year-old's body was stuffed in a surfboard bag.

After launching an appeal for information about his death in May, police arrested three men on Tuesday.

Paul Turner, 48, was arrested at Goulburn and charged with murder, while his co-accused 43-year-old Mark Jenkin was arrested at Newcastle and charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and detain for advantage.

Neither men applied for bail when their matters were mentioned at Goulburn and Newcastle local courts respectively.

Turner is expected to return to court on Wednesday, while Jenkin will not have his matter mentioned again until February.

A third man - Stuart Cowan - also did not apply for bail after being charged with conspiracy to murder and being an accessory after the fact.

The 42-year-old's matter will return to Gosford Local Court on January 15.
