Toddler drowns in NSW backyard pool

A 14-month-old girl has drowned in the backyard pool of a NSW Hunter region home.

She was pulled unconscious from the water of the Medowie pool late on Sunday afternoon, before family members performed CPR on her until police and paramedics arrived.

The girl was taken to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital but could not be revived.

Police are investigating the drowning death and will prepare a report for the coroner.
