Three men have been charged after two people were hospitalised with suspected drug overdoses in southern Sydney.

A 23-year-old man is reported to be in a serious condition while a 23-year-old woman is stable with both believed to have taken GHB (Gamma-hydroxybutyrate).

Police were alerted on Sunday after they were taken to hospital in separate incidents after allegedly obtaining the drug in the Brighton-le-sands area.

Officers attended a hotel there at about 5.50am and arrested three men and a teenage girl.

A 21-year-old man from Guilford was subsequently charged with assaulting police while a 21-year-old man from Greenacre was charged with possessing a prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Kogarah Local Court on January 6.

A 25-year-old man from Greenacre is to be issued with a future service court attendance notice for possessing restricted substance while the female was released without charge.
