Lismore teens arrested over alleged attempted rape of mother

Two Lismore teenagers have been arrested after allegedly breaking into a woman's home, threatening her with a sword and attempting to rape her while her toddler son was nearby.

The youths, aged 15 and 16, broke into the 20-year-old woman's home in Goonellabah, an eastern suburb in Lismore, in the early hours of June 23, police allege.

The woman managed to dial triple zero while they were still inside the house, but the youths, who had their faces concealed, allegedly fled before police arrived.

The woman was treated for minor injuries and shock.

Her 23-month-old son was not injured.

The teens were arrested in Lismore on Wednesday and charged with multiple offences, including assault with intent to have sexual intercourse.

They were refused bail and will appear in a children's court today.
