Teen charged with starting NSW school fire

A teenage girl has been charged with starting a fire at a high school in northern NSW.

Emergency services discovered the roof of the industrial arts building at Inverell High School was ablaze when they were called about 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Staff and students were evacuated without incident and the fire was extinguished a short time later.

A crime scene was established and police arrested a 14-year-old girl.

She was taken to Inverell police station and later charged with recklessly causing damage by fire.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on March 12.
