Teen accused of Anzac Day plot allegedly planned to get gun, bomb manual

A teenage boy accused of plotting an Anzac Day terror attack is alleged to have made plans to obtain a gun and a bomb manual to carry it out. 

The 16-year-old appeared via video link from a New South Wales juvenile detention centre today and applied for bail, with his family in court to support him. 

Federal prosecutor Chris Choi said when the teen was asked why he chose to allegedly commit the crime, he allegedly replied “because here in Australia the Kafir, the infidels, celebrate Anzac Day and I want to terrorise them on that day”. 

It is also alleged counter terrorism police found evidence linking the boy to ISIL. 

“This young person intended to commit a terrorist attack in order to advance the political, religious and ideological beliefs of Islamic state,” Ms Choi said. 

The crown also said if the 16-year-old was granted bail he would be an imminent and direct threat to the Australian public. 

Ms Choi also said the boy had taken part in a de-radicalisation program last year to address violent and extremist behaviour. 

“The intervention program could not deter him from committing a domestic line wolf terrorist attack,” she said. 

The boy's father gave evidence and was visibly upset while pleading for his son’s release. 

“To get my son back home I will do anything... I love him with all my heart… He is everything to me,” he said. 

“My son will not survive in there… He will not.” 

The teen’s father also said he had no knowledge of his son's alleged desire to learn how to make a bomb or that he allegedly downloaded radicalised or beheading videos. 

A decision is expected on Thursday.
