Crown case closed in NSW shop blast trial

The Crown has closed its case in the trial of a shopkeeper accused of murdering two adults and a baby in a Sydney inferno.

Adeel Ahmad Khan has been charged with murdering Chris Noble, his neighbour Bianka O'Brien and her son Jude, who died in the explosion and fire that started in Khan's Rozelle store in the early hours of September 4, 2014.

The Crown alleges the 46-year-old started the blaze to secure an insurance payout and get out of lease obligations.

The court on Friday heard a number of food and drink distributors had told police the convenience store owner did not have anything owing on his accounts with them.

It also heard there were holes in CCTV coverage around the property.

Khan says a trio of robbers tied him up in a storage room and blindfolded him with a rubbish bag in the hours before the blast.

His barrister Luke Brasch says it was these three men that set up an elaborate network of petrol-filled containers and fuel-soaked wicks around the shop.

Investigators were unable to find people matching Khan's descriptions of the robbers in surveillance footage, the court has heard.
