Sydney rolls out the maroon carpet

Sydney will turn up the heat and switch on the XXXX this NRL grand final weekend in an effort to make 20,000 visiting Queenslanders feel at home.

NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres says a quarter of the 80,000 footy fans expected to pack out ANZ Stadium to watch Brisbane battle North Queensland will be from north of the border.

Temperatures on Sunday are tipped to hit a steamy 32 degrees.

"We've made it Queensland heat, just to make them all feel better," Mr Ayres told reporters in Sydney on Friday.

"We've even put the XXXX on tap."

And with NSW expected to wind the clocks forward this weekend, Mr Ayres wasn't too shy to take a dig at the notoriously daylight savings-wary Queenslanders.

"They don't have to worry about whether their cows turn up for milking, their chickens lay eggs on time or their curtains fade," he said.

"They've just got to get down and support their favourite team: the Broncos or the Cowboys."

He said the event will mean a big bump for the state's economy.

"We're expecting well over $20 million in visitor expenditure, but given the huge number of people coming from interstate we think we'll well exceed that when we see the figures after this weekend," Mr Ayres said.
