Sydney prankster steals carpark ticket from oblivious driver

An Australian social media prankster has highlighted just how easy it is to avoid paying for parking if you have the right attire.

Sydney-based entertainer Jamie Zhu, who has amassed a 16,000 strong following on YouTube, scoffed at the prospect of paying $2 to exit a carpark.

Leaving his car at the boom gate, Zhu put on a high-vis vest and waited for another driver to exit through a second lane.

Thinking the prankster worked for the carpark, the oblivious driver handed over his ticket.

Zhu then ran back to his car and used the ill-gotten card to speed out of the lot.

The 23-year-old told nine.com.au, "It was all just a bit of fun."

"It's a skit I think all people in general can relate to, I don't know anybody that likes paying for parking," Zhu said.

His victim, a frustrated university student who had reportedly been having "a really stressful day," saw the humour in Zhu's prank.

"As soon I drove out I pulled the car off to the side of the driveway and ran back and gave him my ticket," he said.

"I told him it was all a joke and he thought it was a good laugh. I bought him lunch afterwards."

Zhu's video has been viewed more than 14 million times on Facebook since it was uploaded last week
