Sydney mum charged with assaulting son

A woman has been charged after she allegedly verbally abused then assaulted her six-year-old son on a train in Sydney.

The 25-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday over the incident, which allegedly occurred between Riverstone and Blacktown on December 28.

Police say an apprehended violence order has been granted for the protection the boy and the woman's three other children, aged 10 months, 22 months and four years old.

The woman is expected to face Parramatta Local Court on January 12.
