A man has been charged with the attempted murder of another man who's in a critical condition after being stabbed in the face and chest in Sydney's west.

The 50-year-old victim was rushed to Westmead Hospital on Friday night after meeting his alleged attacker in Coventry Place, an industrial dead-end in Mount Druitt.

Police say the victim was waiting in his parked car shortly after 9pm when the 37-year-old arrived and after a short conversation he stabbed the older man multiple times in the face and chest.

He then tried to pull the injured man from the front seat before running from the scene, police say.

The victim managed to get to a nearby caravan and call for help.

Police arrested a man in Erskine Park on Saturday night and have charged him with wounding with intent to murder.

He remains in custody and will to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
