Sydney man stabbed by car thief

A man has been stabbed repeatedly with a knife and a screwdriver by a man who was trying to steal his car in Sydney's southwest.

The 27-year-old victim confronted the man after he was spotted by a neighbour trying to steal the Commodore in Bankstown on Sunday morning, police said.

The armed man fled and the injured man was taken to hospital with injuries to his neck, shoulder, arm and upper chest and is in a stable condition.
