A 56-year-old man accused of grooming a child for sex online has been arrested as he left a crowded Sydney train station.

The man was nabbed exiting Parramatta station's turnstiles by officers from the Sex Crimes Squad who approached and handcuff him about 5pm on Thursday, NSW Police footage shows.

Detectives from the child exploitation unit began engaging online with the western Sydney man over several weeks.
