Sweltering weekend coming for Sydney

Spring is just three days old but already Australia is shedding any winter chill, with Sydney set to hit 30 degrees this weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the harbour city to surge to 30 degrees on Saturday, though it’s an isolated hotspot.

The Friday top is forecast to be 23 degrees, and Sunday will drop to a similar top of 22 degrees.
Today will be warmer, however, with a top of 27 degrees.
Spring isn’t quite taking hold everywhere, with Melbourne looking at a top of 19 degrees on Saturday amid a rainy weekend, though that’s warmer than the 15 degrees the city will drop to on Monday.
Brisbane of course is warmer, with temperatures to peak at a scorching 35 degrees on Sunday and stay above 30 degrees all weekend.
Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, and Hobart will see no weekend temperature surges, while Darwin will also remain consistently in the early 30s.
Weatherzone reported that Sydney’s temperature spike would come from two low pressure troughs triggering westerly winds pushing warm inland air towards the coast.
“While this warm weather pattern is not unusual in spring, it is being supported this week by a negative Southern Annular Mode (SAM) – a broad-scale Southern Ocean climate driver that promotes dry and warm westerly winds over eastern Australia,” Weatherzone’s Ben Domensino wrote.
“This creates an opportunity for Sydney to experience warmth this weekend that it usually doesn’t see until later in the season.“
Domensino said if Sydney did crack 30 degrees on Saturday, it would be for the first time in six months - and only the fifth time on record that a 30-degree day has happened this early in spring.
“In records dating back to 1859, Sydney’s Observatory Hill weather station has only reached 30 degrees three times in August and once during the first five days of September,” he wrote.
