Showers could dampen the festive spirit across the Christmas weekend with rain predicted on Friday and storms on Boxing Day.

Christmas Day should reach a warm 25 degrees in Sydney with a moderate chance of showers but a wide chance of storms across NSW will hit on Boxing Day as the temperature reaches 28 degrees, a Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman said.

Parts of northeast NSW will be bracing for some severe Christmas Eve weather with heavy rains and warnings of possible flash flooding in Lismore, Grafton, Maclean, Inverell, Moree and Narrabri.
