Incredible near miss as car smashes into Sydney servo

One Sydney pedestrian came within centimetres of being struck when a black sedan turning into a petrol station spun out of control and smashed into a bowser.

The original video posted to Reddit, purportedly captured on August 28 in Padstow, shows the view of a petrol station’s bowsers off Fairford Road.

A man walks across the driveway before pausing on the sidewalk.

As he stands there, a black sedan attempts to take the turn into the station too fast and slides out of control.

It appears to miss the bystander by a hair, but he nonetheless falls as the car strikes a banner and signage, churning up a hail of dirt.

The sedan then slams sideways through a rank of bowsers and into an unattended ute, before finally coming to a halt.

Bystanders and other drivers rush to the scene.

A white ute was on the other side of the stricken bowsers, but the driver had apparently finished filling up - also dodging a potentially grievous collision.

Police confirmed emergency services were contacted at about 4.50pm on Friday, August 28, after a crash at a petrol station on Fairford Road, Padstow.

The sedan driver, 33, was uninjured and returned a negative breath test result.

He was issues a traffic infringement notice for negligent driving, with a $577 fine.

No other injuries were reported.
