Sydney baby dies from assault injuries

A two-month-old baby has died from serious injuries, days after being rushed unconscious to a Sydney hospital.

The baby girl was taken to Liverpool Hospital on Friday morning after being found with multiple injuries to her head and body.

She died on Tuesday night.

A 30-year-old man, who was on Friday charged with assault, remains in police custody.

Police say upgraded charges are now a consideration.

The man is due to face Campbelltown Local Court in January.

Investigations by Child Abuse Squad detectives are ongoing and Homicide Squad detectives have been notified.

Police have not revealed how or where the baby was injured.
