Suspicious item in Wollongong safe: police

A police operation over a suspicious item near the Wollongong central train station is over after it was declared safe.

The investigation was sparked after a suspicious package was found in a car park on Atchison Street just before noon, police said.

The 100m exclusion zone set up for the operation has been lifted.
