Smoke forces plane turn-back to Sydney

A Virgin plane has been forced to turn around during a flight from Sydney to Darwin after passengers reported smelling smoke in the cabin.

A Virgin Australia spokesman confirmed the plane made a precautionary air return about half an hour into the flight, landing back at Sydney airport at about 11am on Thursday.

All passengers have disembarked and engineers are investigating the cause of the smoke, he said.
