Pilot lands after clipping wires in NSW

A pilot has had a lucky escape after a plane clipped powerlines in northern NSW sparking a grass fire.

Emergency services were called to Warialda in the northwest slopes region after 11.20am on Monday following reports a plane had come down, a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman told AAP.

But the pilot - whose age and gender are not yet know - declined transport to hospital.

Barwon Local Area Command Detective Inspector Dave Silversides told The Inverell Times that "the plane was able to be landed without incident" after it clipped the powerlines.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the grass fire sparked by the downed lines was extinguished fairly quickly by crews with assistance from the Rural Fire Service.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched from Tamworth to the incident but subsequently diverted to a saw mill accident in the Glen Innes area.
