Slain mother farewelled in India

The heartbroken husband and young daughter of a woman who was fatally stabbed in a western Sydney park have farewelled her at a funeral in India.

Prabha Arun Kumar, 41, was walking home through a park in Westmead last Saturday when she was attacked.

She was on the phone to her husband Arun Kumar, who lives in India with their daughter, and reportedly pleaded with her killer.

The IT professional was found lying on a footpath with slash and stab wounds to her neck.

Her husband flew to Australia immediately after the phone call.

Days later Mr Kumar appealed to the public to help find his wife's killer.

He said the pain of losing her was unimaginable.

"My wife was the most caring and beautiful soul," he told reporters on Thursday.

Mr Kumar returned to India with his wife's body.

On Sunday hundreds of friends and family members joined Mr Kumar and his nine-year-old daughter at an emotional service at Amtur near Mangaluru.

A long line of mourners filed past the coffin, which was covered in hundreds of bright flowers and a large photo of the smiling woman, to pay their respects, News Corp reports.

Last week hundreds of Sydney mourners held a candlelight vigil for Ms Kumar at Parramatta Park.

Ms Kumar left her husband and daughter in 2012 to move to Australia for a project with tech firm Mindtree.

She planned to return to India in April.
