Skateboard dad gets behaviour bond

A Sydney father who used his car to tow his young son on his skateboard, has been banned from driving until next year.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm.

Downing Centre Local Court Magistrate Janet Wahlquist sentenced the man to a 12-month good behaviour bond.

She also disqualified him from driving until next year.

The man's son, then 12, smashed his head while "skitching" behind his car in Marrickville in February.

He fractured his skull, had bleeding on the brain, was placed in an induced coma and remained in hospital for weeks.

Solicitor Peter O'Brien said his client was "very remorseful".

"He's obviously grateful that it's all over and most importantly, he's very grateful that his son survived," Mr O'Brien said outside court.
