A 78-year-old woman has died after being struck by a car in western Sydney.

Police say the woman was attempting to use a pedestrian crossing in Richmond about 2pm when she was hit by a Toyota Rav4.

The woman was taken to Westmead Hospital but died late on Saturday afternoon.

The 68-year-old female driver underwent mandatory blood and urine testing.

It is the third death on NSW roads in the past 24 hours but the fourth of the holiday season.

A man died in hospital on Christmas Day after being hit by two vehicles on the M1, near the Freemans Drive on-ramp in Lake Macquarie, about 8.30pm on Thursday.
