A kayaker who went missing a day and a half ago on the Murray River in NSW's Kosciuszko National Park has been winched to safety.

The 41-year-old man set off alone from the Tom Groggin campsite between Khancoban and Thredbo on Sunday afternoon heading down the river, but failed to arrive as expected at a rest area.

Search crews spent Monday looking for him.

Westpac Life Saver Rescue tweeted just before 11am on Tuesday that the man had been winched to safety from a river bank and is in a "satisfactory condition".
