Ron Medich awaits murder sentence

Sydney millionaire Ron Medich will find out in three weeks if he will spend the rest of his life behind bars for directing the execution-style murder of a hated business enemy.

The 70-year-old property developer was found guilty in April of murdering Michael McGurk in September 2009 and intimidating his widow Kimberley McGurk almost a year later.

The 45-year-old was gunned down outside his luxury north shore Sydney home after he and Medich had become embroiled in ongoing and protracted legal battles involving millions of dollars.

At his sentence hearing in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday, prosecutor Sharon Harris submitted that the crimes warranted a sentence of life imprisonment.

She noted Medich had directed and financed a contract murder, which occurred outside Mr McGurk's home in close proximity to his family.

But the millionaire's lawyer Winston Terracini SC argued against a life term, while stressing his client maintained his innocence.

Justice Geoffrey Bellew will sentence him on June 21.
