Search for Newcastle tomahawk attacker

A man is suffering from neck lacerations after he was attacked with a tomahawk in Newcastle.

The 34-year-old had been arguing with another man at a house on Upfold Street, Mayfield, on Wednesday morning, when he was struck in the neck with an axe, police said.

The attacker then fled the scene.

The man is undergoing surgery at John Hunter Hospital.

The police are looking for a 37-year-old man described as caucasian, 178cm tall and thin - and urge the public not to approach the man if spotted but call triple-zero.
