A Marist brother accused of making three child porn images in Sydney accommodation run by the religious group will remain in custody as investigations continue.

Terence Joseph Gilsenan, 60, allegedly made the images on February 22 by cobbling together other pictures at the Marist Brothers Provincial House in Drummoyne.

He is charged with making child abuse material.

Two of Gilsenan's alleged child porn pictures feature him sitting next to a young girl "and a close up of a male and female sexual intercourse alongside captions which outline explicit sexual connotations referencing the child in sexual activity", court documents state.

The third picture allegedly shows a young girl alongside other images of people having sex and contains a similar description of sexual references to the minor.

Gilsenan is in custody and didn't appear when his matter was mentioned at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.

Defence lawyer Greg Walsh told the court "police are still conducting investigations" into his client's behaviour.

Gilsenan will remain behind bars until he's due before Burwood Local Court on April 12.
