Prisoner on the run in NSW Hunter region

A prisoner is on the run after breaking out of a minimum security jail in the NSW Hunter region.

Vaughan Grimston is believed to be at large in a 2018 silver Hyundai Tucson after he was reported missing from the Cessnock correctional facility on Wednesday morning, NSW Police said in a statement.

The 30-year-old is of Caucasian appearance and is a medium build, and has connections to the Central Coast and Sydney metro areas.

Police have warned people not to approach the man but to instead call Triple Zero.
