Prince Andrew given welcome in Wollongong

Prince Andrew has spent the day in Wollongong as he continues his eastern state tour helping budding Australian entrepreneurs get a leg-up.

The Duke of York visited Wollongong University on Tuesday where he attended a training event for entrepreneurs selected for their standout ideas as part of his Pitch@Palace Australia program.

"I have to say that I have been really, really impressed with what I have seen," Prince Andrew told the crowd gathered at a civic reception before the event.

"It is a great pleasure to bring those entrepreneurs here to Wollongong University today where we will give them as much encouragement as we can."

But it wasn't all serious with Lord Mayor of Wollongong Gordon Bradbery taking the time to make a lighthearted quip as he welcomed the Prince to his city on Tuesday.

"No disrespect intended, but Andy welcome to the city of Wollongong, have a great time mate and give our regards to your mum," he laughed.

The prince will spend Wednesday in Sydney visiting the St Vincent's Curran Foundation before attending the Pitch@Palace national final at Government House and a reception at the SCG on Thursday.
