Police investigating after woman found dead in home in Sydney's inner west

Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in her Balmain East flat yesterday, in what appears to be a drug overdose.

At about 5.15pm yesterday, police and emergency services were called to the Nicholson Street home where a woman aged in her 30s was found dead.

Neighbours told 9NEWS that authorities had "had trouble" with the woman in the past and claimed she died as a result of a drug overdose.

A crime scene was established, with forensic officers examining the scene.

A police spokesman said a post mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.
