Police appeal former Eels chief's sentence

Police will appeal a NSW magistrate's decision to not jail a former boss of the Parramatta Eels football club for his role in the salary cap scandal that rocked the NRL.

Scott Seward, 41, was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond without a conviction in July after he dishonestly obtained $220,000 from the Parramatta Leagues Club through false invoices between November 2014 and mid-June 2015.

But the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will now appeal his sentence in the District Court, Fairfax Media reported on Saturday.

The matter is reportedly scheduled for the District Court in November.

Seward was chief executive between September 2013 and June 2015 during which time the Eels were accused of systematically cheating the salary cap through third-party payments.

They were stripped of 12 competition points and fined $750,000 in 2016.
