Phone contents delay NSW terror case

Two men accused of plotting to stab a member of the public as part of a terror attack have again had their case delayed as prosecutors examine the contents of a recently-acquired phone.

The prosecution has requested a six-week extension to finalise their brief of evidence against Sydney men Mohammad Kiad and Omar Al-Kutobi, who have been charged with acting in preparation for a terrorist act.

At Sydney's Central Local Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Greg Grogin noted the pair were arrested in February, saying it had been the fifth time the matter had been brought before the court without setting a trial date.

"The brief hasn't even been finalised," Mr Grogin said as the case was mentioned in Central Local Court on Wednesday.

Kiad, 26, and Al-Kutobi, 24, were housemates in Sydney's west when they allegedly planned to target a civilian with a knife before being arrested at the 11th hour.

The matter will return to court on January 6.

The men remain in custody.
