Pair swapped seats during pursuit: police
A 49-year-old disqualified learner driver who allegedly swapped seats with a passenger as his moving car was pursued by police, has been released on bail.
Police on Saturday said the man was seen behind the wheel of a Mercedes that cut in and out of traffic on Victoria Road, near Rydalmere, on Thursday morning.
As officers attempted to follow the moving car, the driver and female front-seat passenger changed places and the car shortly after stopped in a bus lane.
Police arrested the pair and found the new driver, aged 30, had a suspended licence.
The man allegedly had no licence and later tested positive for methamphetamine.
He faced Burwood Local Court on seven charges including dangerous driving and not wearing a seat belt and was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on August 8.
The woman is expected to face the Burwood court at a later date.
