A man and a woman have been arrested following a chase in which a farmer was allegedly shot at after vehicles and firearms were stolen in NSW's central west.

The farmer from Mirrool near West Wyalong saw his sedan and ute being driven off his property on Saturday afternoon and gave chase in another vehicle.

Police say the man driving the stolen ute shot at the pursuing vehicle, damaging one of the windows but not injuring the driver.

Police later found the sedan burnt out on the Mid-Western Highway.

The ute was sighted twice in the area on Saturday afternoon but police pursuits were terminated due to safety concerns.

At around 4.30am on Sunday the ute was found parked in Griffith and a 26-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman sitting in it were arrested.

They have been charged with numerous offences relating to the theft of the vehicles, shooting at the farmer, leading police on pursuits, fraud and larceny.

Both were refused bail to appear before Leeton Local Court on Monday.
