NSW TERROR ARRESTS - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

OPERATION APPLEBY:

* The operation investigates persons suspected of domestic acts of terrorism, foreign incursions into Syria and Iraq and funding terrorist organisations

* Five arrested after most recent raids on December 10, 2015

* The latest arrests relate to a further alleged plot

* The original plot involved alleged planning of an attack on a random member of the public

* Police say the second plot "may have involved an attack on a government building, whether that be AFP or police".

15-YEAR-OLD ACCUSED:

* Officers seized photos of the Georges Hall boy allegedly brandishing a firearm

* Also seized photos saved to his phone allegedly of beheadings and Islamic extremists

* While under surveillance he texted the word "banana" as a codeword for "firearm"

* Alleged to have sent the text "I am going to get to paradise through banana. God is great, no God but Allah"

* Charged with conspiracy to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act

* Believed to be the youngest person in Australia to be charged with a terrorism offence

* Bail refused. Back in court on February 5.

IBRAHIM GHAZZAWY:

* 20 years old, from Raby

* Charged on December 10, 2015, with conspiracy to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act

* Court documents allege he conspired with the boy and three others in 2014 to prepare for a terrorist act

* Expected to face court again on January 20.

RAIDS AND THREE OTHER CO-ACCUSED:

* Three other men, already in custody on related and unrelated matters, were charged with conspiracy to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act

* Two men, aged 21 and 22, are expected to face court on December 16

* A third man, also aged 22, had been expected to face court on December 10

* Police say all three are associates of people connected to the murder of Sydney police accountant Curtis Cheng in October.
