'Open finding' on NSW woman's death

A NSW coroner has found no evidence to connect the death of a pregnant woman with alleged threats made by her ex-boyfriend, describing the case as "perplexing".

Alyce Pollett, 20, was found dead in bed by her grandmother at their Sydney home in July 2011.

NSW Coroner Michael Barnes on Tuesday found alleged threats made by the putative father of her unborn child "cannot be relied upon".

Three forensic pathologists agreed neck compression was the most likely cause of death, however they acknowledged the usual injuries found in manual strangulation cases were absent.

An autopsy suggested Ms Pollett did not die of natural causes and Mr Barnes recorded an open finding.
