Man dead, teen injured after NSW skydive

A freak wind was reportedly responsible for a fatal skydiving accident near Goulburn Airport in NSW.

A man, reportedly an instructor, was killed and a 14-year-old boy was critically injured when a tandem skydive went wrong on Saturday.

Police say the pair fell straight down from about 20 metres.

A chief instructor, Yaakov Bokay, witnessed the pair descend and told journalists a gust of wind caused the fatal accident, according to Fairfax Media.

"Everything was perfect and a wind gust, a willy-willy, came up and collapsed the canopy and both dropped to the ground," Mr Bokay told Fairfax Media.

"This is a very sad day for us."

The instructor who was killed was experienced and a regular with the Adrenalin Skydiving company, Mr Bokay said.

The 14-year-old boy was airlifted to the Westmead Children's Hospital in a critical condition.
