NSW traders caught selling dodgy chargers

The NSW government has seized 138 dodgy phone chargers and other electrical goods in a crackdown following the electrocution of a young mother.

Fair Trading commissioner Rod Stowe said two traders were likely to face prosecution for selling unsafe devices.

Thirteen traders are also likely to face penalties for selling unreliable devices, such as the phone charger that is believed to have killed mother-of-two Sheryl Andeguer.

The 28-year-old was found dead in her NSW Central Coast home on April 23 with burns to her head, ears and chest.

It is believed she was wearing earphones and was found lying near a smartphone and a plugged-in laptop.

Mr Stowe said the raid targeted small retailers, which were the main culprits of unapproved USB chargers and other items.

He said he was surprised by the number of traders who sold the dodgy electrical goods, which were often manufactured in Asia.
