NSW teen charged over rugby ref assault

A Maitrland rugby union player has been charged with assaulting a referee during a junior grand final in Newcastle.
The 18-year-old player allegedly struck the 19-year-old referee in the jaw during the match at Newcastle's No.2 Sportsground on Saturday.
The player was arrested later that evening and charged with common assault to appear at Maitland Local Court on October 4.
